Paddlesports

The Avon Scout & Guide Canoe Club offers fun water-based activities in the sheltered waters of the Bristol docks for members of Scouting and Girlguiding. Our team provides kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding from the Benjamin Perry boathouse at the eastern end of the Floating Harbour.

The club offers Scouts and Guides a fun paddling experience through taster sessions and training courses, supporting young people and leaders in achieving Paddle UK Awards and Scout Adventurous Activity Permits.

We are unable to provide activities for the general public.

Useful Resources

Traditional Raft Building Training

To undertake Traditional Rafting on B1 waters with your troop or unit you need to have an Activity Permit.

Unlike Sailing, Pulling or Canoeing there is no National body for this activity, so we have developed a training programme and check list to comply with the requirements of POR. We have a team of County Assessors who are all keen water sports enthusiasts and know the benefits of running water activities for scouts. We run a training day (usually in April) to train scouters to meet the requirements of POR and follow this up with an assessed event.
