Rifle Shooting
Scouting has a long association with shooting. It encourages concentration and fitness whilst contributing to the development of self-discipline, respect for authority and an awareness of risk.
In Avon we have our own rifle club which provides training and support for leaders who wish to organise shooting activities with their young people. Avon Scout Rifle Club (ASRC) is one of just a handful of Home Office approved Scout rifle clubs in the country and is permitted to undertake most types of target shooting activities, from low powered air rifles, through smallbore to fullbore shooting. ASRC is run to cater exclusively for members of the Scout Association, of all ages
ASRC runs training courses for any leaders who wish to become qualified and introduce their scouts to shooting. ASRC is also able to hire equipment to suitably qualified leaders and also to offer advice for Scouts, Explorers, leaders and district commissioners who have an interest in developing this activity.
ASRC runs an annual shooting competition every September, open to all members of the Scout Association.
