Roverway is an international event similar to a jamboree or moot, held for 16–22 year old participants every 3-4 years. This summer it is taking place in Stavanger, Norway, and a patrol from Avon will undergo a pathway of choice, the main camping event and then a post-event in Copenhagen with the rest of the UK contingent.

The 8 Explorers and Network members representing Avon (also known as the Avon Pi-rats) have been meeting for a year now, to work on teamwork and skills. So far, they have been on walks in WSM and Bristol, taken on international cooking challenges, found the best chips in Bath and London Monopoly!

Most recently, the Patrol Leader (Peter Lillistone from Cabot) and Assistant Patrol Leader (Thea Moyle from Wansdyke) attended PL Academy at Gilwell Park. They underwent training including media, extra safeguarding and learnt more about what is to come in Norway! They also got to meet the other 80 or so PLs and APLs attending Roverway from all of the UK.

The patrol also met up with other UK Roverway participants for a London Monopoly. Avon came second but most importantly got to meet other patrols and see some London landmarks.

If you would like to follow along with our journey, we will be posting on our patrol Instagram (@avonroverway2024) and TikTok (@avonroverway24) and updates of our meetings on the Avon Scouts website and Facebook.

If you would like to generously donate to us to help our journey (funding kit or travel to the airport etc) please email theamoyle@outlook.com where she will send over account details. On another note, if you know a company who would sponsor us for patrol kit (like t-shirts, fleeces) please also reach out to theamoyle@outlook.com and that will be gratefully received.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
