Activities & Adventure

Scouts take part in over 200 activities. Everyday adventure is central to Scouting. From abseiling to zorbing and all that is in between. In Avon we have a range of activity centres, campsites and specialist support covering land, water, creative, international and air activities. You can guarantee great facilities, expert training and a sense of adventure as standard. Our advisers, instructors and assessors run everything from taster sessions, to programme activities, training and assessment for activity authorisations. They are also an excellent source of information, advice and guidance.

Adventurous activities are operated within the framework of the Scout Assocation’s Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR). A permit scheme for adventurous activities is designed to show that all those leading these for young people in Scouting have the skills, experience and personal suitability to do so. Everyone who leads an adventurous activity (such as hiking/hill walking or mountaineering) within Scouting is required to hold a permit for that activity. POR sets out those classed as ‘adventurous’ for this purpose.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
