Traditional Rafting Permit Training
If you have an active outdoor Scout or Explorer troop/unit then building and manoeuvring your own homebuilt raft is a must on your summer programme. In order to fulfil this challenge on B1 (including the Bristol Harbour) waters POR requires your leaders to hold an appropriate Activity Permit.
What’s Involved?
The day includes sessions on safety, risk assessments, raft building, check lists, safety cover, and a practical session. After the training course, you will need to arrange a session with your own troop and an assessor to issue your permit.
What do I need to know?
The training is available for leaders and explorers and runs from 10am to 3pm on Sunday 27th April. The cost is £10 (paid on the day), which covers building hire, kit hire, tea and biscuits.
Please bring a complete change of clothes and a packed lunch. Toilet and changing facilities are available. Parking is in the car park in Redcliff Parade and walk down. It is a pay carpark in the clean air zone. Please car share if possible as parking is limited
Unlike Sailing, Pulling or canoeing there is no National body for this activity so 13 years ago we developed a training programme and check list to comply with the requirements of POR. We have a team of County Assessors who are all keen water sports enthusiasts and know the benefits of running water activities for scouts.
