Date: 15th Jun 2026 Author: Cathy Harding

Everyone at Avon Scouts is delighted to congratulate Neil Salter on being awarded an MBE, recognising almost six decades of outstanding dedication, volunteering and service to young people and communities.

Neil’s contribution to Scouting across Avon has been truly remarkable. Through his role as County Commissioner and then Chair of the Board of Trustees for Avon Scouts, as well as his many years of volunteering, Neil has supported not only individual groups but the wider county, helping Scouting to grow, thrive and create opportunities for thousands of young people.

Currently part of 2nd Portishead Scouts, Neil has been a constant source of encouragement, leadership and support. His commitment has helped generations of young people build confidence, learn skills for life and experience the adventure that Scouting offers.

But this recognition is also a celebration of the incredible community of volunteers across Avon. Neil himself has shared that this award reflects the dedication of everyone who gives their time each week to make a difference.

With Scouting very much part of Neil’s family too, it is clear that the movement has been a huge part of his life, creating friendships, memories and a lasting legacy.

From everyone across Avon Scouts, thank you Neil for your years of service, your leadership and the difference you have made. This is a truly well-deserved honour.

Congratulations! πŸŽ‰
