Join us for the Avon Scouts Traditional Rafting Training Day on Sunday 7th April 2024

Date: 12th Feb 2024 Author: Cathy Harding

Are you ready for an amazing adventure on the water? Join us for the Avon Scouts Traditional Rafting Training Day on Sunday 7th April and learn how to build and steer your own raft with your Scouts, Explorers or Network . This is a great opportunity to develop your skills, have fun and earn an Activity Permit for B1 waters.

The training day will run from 10am to 3pm and cover everything you need to know about rafting, from safety and risk assessments to raft building and check lists. You will also get to test your raft on the water in the afternoon and enjoy some tea and biscuits. The cost is only £10 per person, payable on the day. Please bring a complete change of clothes and a packed lunch. Toilets and changing facilities are available at the venue.

To complete your permit, you will need to run a rafting session with your own troop or unit, under the supervision of one of our County Assessors. They will make sure you follow the guidelines and standards set by POR. There is no national body for traditional rafting, so we have created our own training programme and check list based on our experience and passion for water activities.

The training day will take place at the Benjamin Perry Boathouse, 13 Redcliffe Parade W, Redcliffe, Bristol. Parking is in the car park in Redcliff Parade, which is a pay car park. Please try to car share if possible, as parking spaces are limited. You can also look forward to a trimaran race on the 2023 course. For more information, please see the Rafting (traditional) Fact Sheet on Scouts website.

To book your place, please contact Tony Clutten on tonyc27890@gmail.com or telephone 07525224521. Don’t miss this chance to have a fantastic rafting experience with Avon Scouts!

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
