Fosse Way Explorers Celebrate Success at Woodhouse Weekender

Date: 1st Dec 2025 Author: Cathy Harding

Avon Scouts are proud to share the incredible achievements of Fosse Way Explorers from Radstock, during their recent visit to the Woodhouse Weekender at Woodhouse Park Activity Centre.

This event marked the first major outing for the unit beyond their usual evening meetings—and it was a resounding success.

Fosse Way Explorers is a pioneering Scout unit created to ensure that all young people, of all abilities, have the opportunity to experience Scouting. Every member attends Fosse Way School, a specialist school supporting children and young people with a range of learning needs. The unit was established thanks to the vision and determination of Graham Bush, who has worked tirelessly to make Scouting inclusive and accessible.

Despite challenging weather, the Explorers embraced every activity, from outdoor adventures to creative sessions in the craft room. They also joined forces with Argus Explorers over lunch to make pitta bread pizzas—a simple activity that sparked conversation and new friendships.

One standout moment came from Luke, a young person who struggles with speech, who spent the day saying: “I’m so happy, Graham” with a big smile. His words perfectly captured the spirit of the weekend.

Graham expressed his gratitude to the Woodhouse team for their patience, flexibility, and support, noting that the success of this event has given him confidence to plan even more experiences for the unit. With ideas already forming for next term, the future looks bright for these young people.

Avon Scouts believe that Scouting is for everyone—and Fosse Way Explorers are living proof of what inclusion can achieve.
