A Lasting Thank You: The Gillett Centre at Woodhouse Park

Date: 24th Feb 2026 Author: Cathy Harding

Woodhouse Park are delighted to share some very special news with our Avon Scouting family.

The Training Centre building at Woodhouse Park Activity Centre will be renamed The Gillett Centre, in honour of Sue Gillett — a true friend of Avon County Scouts and someone who gave so much support to the building’s original purpose and vision.

Sue believed deeply in creating spaces where volunteers could learn, grow and feel supported. The Training Centre has done exactly that over the years — hosting courses, skills sessions, planning meetings and countless cups of tea that turned into big ideas. Renaming the building feels like a natural and heartfelt way to recognise the quiet, steady impact Sue has had across our County.

The Gillett Centre will continue to be a place where leaders develop their skills, young people ultimately benefit from stronger programmes, and the spirit of Scouting in Avon keeps moving forward.

We look forward to welcoming members to the Gillett Centre and celebrating Sue’s lasting legacy at Woodhouse Park.
