RYA Youth Courses Stage 1 & Stage 3

Stage 1

The RYA Stage 1 Start Sailing guides you from never having sailed to understanding the basics of how a boat sails (and what the parts are called) whilst practicing sailing, steering and stopping your own boat.

A ‘RYA Start Sailing’ book and RYA Youth Logbook are included in the course price and successful candidates are awarded an RYA Stage 1 Certificate.

Students generally have a boat each and should be confident in the water.

Sailing can be quite physical and our recommend minimum age is 10 years.

Students who complete the syllabus successfully can go on to consolidate their skills in a Stage 2 course

STAGE 3

Pre requisites: Students should be able to rig and sail a short course on their own. Students should bring their Stage 2 certificate and logbook.

New skills and refinements to the basic skills are taught

On completion students should be able to rig and sail on their own, on all points of sail, in a gentle breeze.

Successful candidates will be awarded a RYA Stage 3 Certificate and may continue their sailing at our Club
