Celebrating Our King’s & Queen’s Scouts: Unforgettable Moments at Berkeley and Windsor Castles!

Date: 14th May 2025 Author: Cathy Harding
It has been an exciting few months with two wonderful celebrations for some of our amazing King’s & Queen’s Scouts in Avon.
Berkeley Castle – Local Celebration
The first event took place at Berkeley Castle in March, celebrating King’s Scouts from both Avon & Gloucestershire in the presence of those who supported them along the way!
The evening involved tours of the castle, award presentations with special guests of both Avon & Gloucestershire counties, an address from Izzie Inga (UK Youth Team), a video message from Chief Scout Dwayne Fields, and finished with some mingling & nibbles.
We celebrated the achievements of James Askey, Nick Bond, Henry Brooke from Avon, along with 2 recipients from Gloucestershire Scouts.
We also celebrated a Scouts of the World award holder, Jack Osborne who also received his King’s Scout Award previously.
Windsor Castle – Day of Celebration
Whilst groups across the UK were celebrating St George’s Day locally, 4 King & Queen’s scouts from Avon were at Windsor Castle for a Day of Celebration.
James Askey, Tom Croft, Nick Bond & James Bennett spent the morning at the Cold Stream Guards’ Barracks getting to know others in their section for the parade, and learning how to march.
In the afternoon they paraded into the quadrangle of Windsor Castle and were reviewed by the Duke of Kent, Chief Scout Dwayne Fields, UK chief volunteer Carl Hankinson, UK youth lead Ayesha Karim & Ambassadors Tim Peake and Helen Glover.
They were joined by 2,000 guests and other award recipients who have been nominated for their bravery, heroism and outstanding contributions to Scouting.
They then had a special service in St George’s Chapel, joined by many of the scout ambassadors, featuring an address from ambassador Helen Glover, before finishing the day with a final parade out of the castle onto the streets of Windsor.
These King’s & Queen’s scouts have worked extremely hard to achieve the highest award in youth scouting, and have demonstrated commitment to scouts, local communities and international causes, & should be very proud of their achievements!
