Avon Scout & Guide Canoe Club (ASGCC)
ASGCC provides canoeing and kayaking to Scouting sections across the County. There is a dedicated team of instructors (a friendly bunch) providing sessions weekly from May to July (with some additions before and after, light and weather permitting).
Unfortunately, due to people moving etc. there are vacancies within the Club committee for Secretary, Treasurer and Bookings Secretary. These positions do not necessarily require any knowledge of canoeing although it would be useful for the bookings secretary post. The posts are open to anyone (including parents) and do not necessarily require membership of the Scout Association. We need your help so that we can continue to provide this activity.
What does it entail? Generally, the committee meet 3 or 4 times a year plus an AGM.
The Secretary – Attend the meetings to take minutes, produce and distribute them. Keep an eye on the instructors’ qualification expiry dates and remind them to renew. These are kept on a database and easily accessible.
The Treasurer – Maintain the accounts for the Club. Receive payments, make payments and produce the annual accounts for the AGM. Attend 3 or 4 meetings per year plus the AGM.
Bookings Secretary – At the beginning of each year the Club announces dates for the coming season. The bookings secretary takes bookings from the scouting sections and allocates instructors to those sessions. A knowledge of canoeing/kayaking is an advantage in order to understand what is required on each session. However, full training and support can be given.
