Growth & Development Roles
Scouting actively engages and supports young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. We want to grow Scouting in Avon to enable more young people to be prepared with these skills for life. If you’d like to help us, we have some great volunteer opportunities available as we work to build our growth and development capability within the County.

Across Avon we have over 2000 young people on waiting lists and more wanting to join every day. We have set out plans for development across the County, based on two key themes, underpinned by quality programme:
- Growth to meet demand – we will continue support for funded development projects whilst growing our volunteer led development capability
- Build strong teams to create sustainable development – we will focus on developing our future leaders, recruit more volunteers and further improve our volunteer journey.
To support delivery of these plans we have created 4 new County roles:
Assistant County Commissioner Growth (2 Roles)
There are two roles available, one focused on opening new groups and sections and the other on growing existing sections, including volunteer retention. The volunteers in these roles will work closely together to support the growth of Scouting in Avon and increasing the number of places available for young people to join. Assistant County Commissioner Volunteer Recruitment
Focused on senior volunteer recruitment at County and District level. Building professional relationships with large businesses and adult education organisations to identify great candidates and promote the career benefits to individuals of volunteering with the Scouts. Assistant County Commissioner Leadership Development
Responsible for building the senior leadership capability. The main focus of the role is to identify talented volunteers and accelerate their development through structured learning, specific delivery opportunities and mentoring.
