Vacancy – Avon Jamboree 2020 Head of Activities

Role Description – Avon Jamboree 2020, Head of Activities   

Reports to: Camp Chief,  Deputy Camp Chief and Finance.

Role Summary: To lead, plan and delivery the Activities program for 5000 young people at the Avon County Jamboree 2020.

Responsible for:

  • Activities Leads:
    • Day time
    • Evening
    • Day visitor
    • Sub camp
    • IST
    • Off-site
  • To arrange activities for campers within a set budget
  • To keep the Activity team informed of all developments
  • To work with the Activities Leads to ensure a balanced programme for 6-18 year olds
  • To work with Day visitor lead to ensure activities do not impact other campers on full programme
  • To provide a range of evening activities for 8-18 year olds
    To support the ASJ Team in the preparation and collation of all polices and risk assessments.
  • To ensure that the owners/organisers of the sites have sufficient Health & Safety measures in place (particularly commercial organisations)
    Preparation of a H&S plan including clear correspondence and risk assessments. Ensuring compliance and safety risks are reviewed and met.
  • To liaise with the Head of H&S with regards to H&S arrangements for all activities
  • To inform Site Services of equipment required (e.g. tables, chairs etc) at least 6 months prior to the event.
  • To ensure all volunteers, participants and contactors meets the appropriate guidelines
  • To ensure that sufficient transport is appointed and are briefed for any off-site activities
  • To ensure ASJ teams and the jamboree are safe and compliance before and during the event.

  • Previous Jamboree or similar size event experience (desirable)
  • Ability to use own initiative but also to work as part of a team (essential)
  • Organised and able to manage time effectively (essential)
  • Able to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines (essential)
  • Ability to manage staff and teams effectively (essential)
  • Organised and able to manage time effectively (essential)
  • Have the ability to attend evening and weekend meetings and activities (essential)
  • Have the ability to attend relevant trainings (essential)
  • Have the ability to use electronic communications (essential)
  • Good interpersonal skills (essential)
  • Have a sense of humour (essential)

Membership Requirement:

A member of the Scout or Guiding Associations and hold a current Scouting or Guiding DBS which is valid until the end of AJ2020
