Rickard Shield & Golden Boot Night Navigation Competition – 2018 March event CANCELLED

Update 17 March 2018 : We are very sad to say that this year’s RICKARD SHIELD IS CANCELLED.

This is a decision that we have not taken lightly; we have been tracking the weather hour on hour for the last week but, as things stand, the Met Office forecast is an 80% chance of heavy snow during the early hours of Sunday morning with continuous snow fall through Saturday evening, and Sunday morning. The temperature is forecast to stay below freezing throughout which, with windchill, will feel like -9. This has been reinforced with a bespoke forecast from the Met office for our event. We know you would have been ok whilst walking and camping but we need to be sure that you could get there and back and that we could get to you in an emergency.I know you will all be disappointed (especially those that signed up late following the cancellation of the WSJ camp!) but all of my team agreed that, in the circumstance, it was the right thing to do.
This is the first Rickard we have had to cancel in 15 years and my team are heartbroken but we will be back next year!Thank you to all of you for signing up this year. Thanks also to everyone from my team who have put in so much effort over the last 6 months planning and preparing. The compensation is that you’ll be safe this weekend.

Very best wishes to you all.
