Formal Opening of the new Avon Scout & Guide Canoe Club (ASGCC) – Saturday 9th June 2018
Just before the start of the Avon Scout Regatta, Mr Stuart Ballard (Deputy County Commissioner) will formally open the new equipment store.
Avon County Scouts has generously supported the Club over the years and in particular the activity support unit, with emphasis on funding in recent years. This enabled the Club to overhaul, modernise and update its fleet, as well as its safety equipment. The Club can now provide appropriate sized equipment for a young person aged 11 years through to over 18s.
In order to accommodate the new equipment, the Club has been focusing in the last three years, on the storage facilities, with the majority of the improvements from the Club’s own funds. The Boathouse maintenance team and Rowing Club, both share the facilities and have been of great support and help. What was once a dark, cramped dirty and dusty cave, is now much brighter, accessible storage area, and also includes new racking installed specifically for the Canoes and Kayaks, as well as an equipment storage areas for helmets, paddles, buoyancy aids, etc.
We can provide activities for groups of up to thirty-two individuals – they can be kitted out very quickly and spend quality time on the water .
Currently the Club has just over 100 requests for sessions this summer (a session is one instructor to eight people), and in addition they also support the County Regatta, as well as offering canoeing sessions for Scouts and Guides during Bristol Open Doors Days.
