| After a succesful County Patrol Camping Weekend in October 2003,
when a record number of 33 Patrols took part, are you ready for the camping challenge of
the year in 2004? Put the dates Friday 8th to Sunday 10th October
2004 in your diaries now and start training/honing your camping skills and join
us at Woodhouse Park for the challenge!
This is your invitation to take part in a challenge to your Camping skills
and ability to work as a team.
For those who enjoyed this event last year, it is intended to be on similar lines, and
will incorporate any comments made on your behalf at the County Young Peoples Forum
held on the 8 June 2004. The following bullet points will give a flavour of what is on
offer. More detail will be supplied when we receive your application forms and fees.
¨ The event fee of £10.50 per person includes a variety of activities
at allocated times along with the site camping fees. Closing date for entries 24
September.
¨ Booking will be by Patrol as per the application form attached and
cheques should made payable to Avon County Scout Council marked County Patrol
Camp on the back.
¨ A patrol will be of 4 to 6 Scouts of a mixed age range with one PL
and one APL.
¨ Applications are limited to a total of 240 young people (eg, 40
Patrols of 6).
¨ Each patrol will plan their own menu and purchase their own food. A
copy of the planned menu must be given to the organisers on arrival. They will also need
to bring material for a Gateway incorporating a display of lanterns (night lights in jam
jars), that they have designed in advance. New feature for this year!
¨ This event includes a competition for the prestigious Post
& Press Trophy, where points will be scored for good camping standards,
teamwork, food preparation & cooking etc. Then there is the additional Trophy (as
suggested by your County Young Peoples Forum in 2003) The Tony Award for
the best Tenderfoot Patrol, a Patrol that may need some adult help over the
weekend. The decision is yours; you can take up the challenge in either category by
indicating so on the form or just join us for a fun weekend.
¨ Cooking will be on wood fires so make sure you have an altar fire to
bring or indicate on the entry form that you wish to hire one from the warden. Numbers
limited.
Looking forward to meeting you on the weekend.
