Under 25? Could you lead the way as our new Youth Commissioner?

Added 10/12/2015 test

We are looking for a young person (aged 18-25) who has the passion and drive to help us ensure youth shaped Scouting is embedded into all aspects of our work. Following eleven years of membership growth we are about to embark on a Strategic Plan for 2018.

Having a movement that is shaped by young people in partnership with adults is a key strand of our vision and strategy and we are looking for a young person who can play an important role as we begin a new and exciting chapter in our history.

One of our young people has the chance to be the first ever Avon Youth Commissioner - working in partnership with the County Commissioner and County Chairman to lead the movement forward. This is a fantastic chance for a young person to be part of Scouting's future and to develop their personal and voluntary skills.

The Avon Youth Commissioner will be responsible for helping us implement some ambitious but exciting work including the following:

  • County Youth Council - The council will allow young people to have their say about everything relating to their Scouting experience and bring it to our attention nationally. We envisage the council being a large scale event which, we hope, will have at least one representative from each District to ensure local youth forums have the opportunity to feed into the discussions.
  • Be a part of the National Youth Council - The council is a large scale National event which our County representative will take the County's views on youth shaped scouting and ensures that the outcomes from the council are impacted on appropriately and the results are communicated back to all levels locally.
  • Youth Shaped Scouting Implementation Working Group - The smaller group will be responsible for implementing some agreed pieces of work which aim to provide the right support structures at all levels across the County so we are able to achieve our goals by 2018.

This is an excellent opportunity for a young person to gain experience in a senior volunteer role within the largest co-educational youth movement in the UK.

If you are interested in this role or wish to nominate someone please complete the form and return to County Office by Friday 9th January 2016
