Oscar Winner gains a new badge of honour

Added 26/07/2012 test

The recipients of the 2012 Scout Birthday Badges have been announced. Avon's Scouts were lucky enough to present one of them with their award.

On 1 August every year we celebrate Scouting's birthday by awarding an Honorary Scout Activity Badge for a particular accomplishment and/or achievement. The accolades are presented to public figures who have achieved something special across a range of activities. The winners are voted for by Scouts who have been inspired by what they have done.

This year Oscar Winner, Nick Park joins the ranks of previous famous Scout Badge recipients including Stephen Fry, Sir David Attenborough and Dame Ellen MacArthur. Other winners for 2012 include: John Bishop (Sports Enthusiast) the Hairy Bikers (Chef) and Russell T Davies (Writer).

Scouts from our County (Westbury, Henleaze and Brentry) joined Nick and perhaps his most famous creation, Wallace, to present the award: a super-sized model-making badge.  A Scout in his youth, Nick was delighted to receive the award, talked at length with our Scouts, and wanted to encourage Scouts everywhere to be creative.

We congratulate Nick on his award and hope he will be able to continue to support us in the future.
