On Saturday 21st June 140 Network and Explorer members from
across Avon joined together at Hamburger Hill, near Hunstrete, for
a day of paintballing.
For four hours the young people, from 32 different units,
splatted each other with paintballs under the hot summer sun.
Following a change in Scouting rules in late 2013 to permit
paintball as an activity, this was the first time many of the units
involved had been able to take part in the activity.
Paul Harper, Deputy County Commissioner for 14-25, said "We were
delighted that nearly 140 explorers, network members and their
leaders from 32 units and networks took part. It involves stealth,
bravery, team tactics and many other scouting skills to be
successful. The highlight of the day was a team game involving
everyone. I think I was seen as a target in the final shoot out but
it was all good fun!!
"The format of NEX changes every year. we have moved from the
Pirate beach party last year to the paintball in the
Woods this year. 2015 will see NEX does Bristol monopoly
but I wouldn't rule out another paintball based activity in
addition based on this weekends successful event."
Plans for next year's "NEX does Bristol Monopoly" are already
underway, so watch this space!
