Japan 2015: International Adventure Awaits for Avon Scouts

Added 17/03/2014 test

In Summer 2015, 3500 members of Scouting from across the UK will be travelling to Kirara-Hama in Japan for the 23rd World Jamboree. Among them will be 72 young people, and 8 adults, from Avon making up two whole contingents.

The county held a Jamboree selection day at Woodhouse Park in January, with the young people being given ten challenges to complete. The results from that day were sent to districts who held their own selection exercises in liaison with the Jamboree team.

The contingent units are starting to meet monthly to train and develop ready for the Jamboree, and to raise the funds needed to travel to Japan and attend the Jamboree. Avon County are supporting each contingent member with a £700 bursary, and districts also providing grants, but most members still need to raise at least £1,500. Keep your eye out for Jamboree fundraising events in your district.
In addition to our contingents, 24 adults from across Avon will be flying out to Japan to volunteer as part of the International Service Team - find out more.
