Scouts camp in all winds and weathers

Camping competition

Despite this weekend's stormy weather, the County Camping Competition was a great success with 14 teams taking part.  Thankfully, the tents didn't blown away. Scouts enjoyed themselves with all sorts of activities and showing off their camp craft skills.  There were birds of prey, an assault course and a disco in the rain with laser lights. Avon Scout Radio was there to catch all the action.  There's some great photos on Facebook - take a look

Wild animals

Every year there is a different the theme and this year it was wild animals. Scouts base their evening meal and the decoration of their Sedan Chair (which they race) on the country from which this animal comes. They compete for points and the winners win the coveted "Post and Press" trophy or the "Tony Award" for less experienced campers. Results 2013

Teamwork, fun and friends

Scouts put in great effort to prepare for the weekend and use teamwork to try to be the best.  Not only are the activities great, but they make friends from other Scout Troops and learnt a lot about our chosen theme - not to mention some cooking skills!

Our amazing volunteers had fun too!

Over 30 adult volunteers helped to run the event.  They had a great time too, running the activities, providing first aid cover and catering amongst other things. Scouting has over 4,000 volunteers in Avon and every week they help in all sorts of ways, from activities and youth work to administration.  There's something for everyone.  The camping competition shows that Scouting is great fun for adult volunteers too!
