    The recipients of the 2012 Scout Birthday Badges have been announced. Avon's Scouts were lucky enough to present one of them with their award.     On 1 August every year we celebrate Scouting's birthday by awarding an Honorary Scout Activity Badge for a particular accomplishment and/or achievement. Read more

  • John May encourages more volunteers to join Scouting in Avon

    Avon Scouts and assembled guests today welcomed John May as keynote speaker at its annual meeting which was held in the Great Hall of the Wills Memorial building at Bristol University.  Scouting's popularity has soared lately, experiencing nine years of sustained growth, with teenagers and girls leading the way. Read more

  • TV adventurer, Ed Coats becomes local Scout Ambassador

      Avon Scouts today announced that TV adventurer, Ed Coats has become their youngest County President and the latest high profile ambassador for the organisation. Scouting provides an adventurous and challenging programme of development to girls, boys, young women and men aged 6-25 across the UK and it is present in nearly every country of the world. Read more

  • Numbers on the increase – 9 years in a row!

    We're delighted to announce that in Avon our numbers have grown for the 9th consecutive year - and  overall Scouting numbers in the UK also rose in 2011. More than 12,000 people are now actively involved in scouting in Avon We've seen significant increases in girls joining sections - an example of this was over 70% increase in girls joining Beavers in one district!! More teenagers aged 14-18 are turning to the adventure opportunities offered by Scouting and we're delighted. Read more

  • HM The Queen recognises Avon's top Scouting achievement

    Sixteen scouts from Avon have been honoured by HM The Queen and International adventurer Chief Scout Bear Grylls for gaining their Queen's Scouts Award. The Queen's Scout Award is the highest honour in Scouting and is awarded for outstanding personal achievement. Read more
