Fundraising

Possible sources of funding to support Scouting in Avon

Short of money for Scouting Activities?

There are many ways of obtaining funds for Scouting activities, money is available and with a bit of effort you can get the funding you need.

Who to approach for money?

1)      Local connections
For smaller amounts of money consider asking local contacts who might be able to give you money quickly. e.g., business associations, Rotary, Lions, Round table, Scouting contacts, local church etc.

If you need help to support an individual (e.g. for subs, uniform, camp fees) and your District or the County cannot help then approach The Scout Association. For more information: www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/hqdocs/facts/pdfs/fs190006.pdf
[pdf document]

2)       Grants
If you need larger amounts of money £500+ then apply to a grant making trusts using pages 2-5 of this guide to help you find the most appropriate fund. When applying for a grant, make sure that whatever you are applying for is well planned, achievable and well organised. Ask for a designated amount of money for an exact purpose.  Allow plenty of time (up to 4 months) for your application to be considered. You will also need to consider the contribution you are going to make and provide cash flow projections and up to date accounts. You must inform both your District Commissioner and the County Commissioner if applying for any grant (POR 3.59 and 4.68).

3)      Loans
If grant applications are unsuccessful then you may wish to consider taking out a loan. Loans are available from:-

*  Avon County Scouts - The County Development Fund can make interest free loans - see below.

*  The Scout Association HQ. Up to £50,000 - interest charged at current bank base rate. Contact Fundraising Dept at Gilwell Park, see below.
