During the very successful series of special
Cub Scout Science Days at @Bristol in January and February 2003,
499 Cub Scout Scientist Badges were awarded. We are now able to
offer some additional dates as we know that many Cub Scout Packs
were unable to get places in January/February.
@Bristol is a one-stop destination for a
great visit. It comprises three separate attractions:
Wildwalk - a living
rainforest in the heart of the city
Explore - an amazing
world of hands-on discovery
IMAX® Theatre
- the biggest cinema screen in the west
As well as amazing hands-on exhibits offering endless opportunities in science, technology and natural history, @Bristol's education team have designed special days of workshops and trails that fulfil all the requirements of the new Cub Scout Scientist Badge.
The day will include:
A Science and
Nature workshop investigating slime, dry ice and creepy-crawlies.
A trail in Explore
looking at the way our brains work and how everyday forces create
amazing effects.
A trail in Wildwalk
looking at the variety of life on Earth in our unique rainforest
setting.
A show in the
Orange Imaginarium (our planetarium) that takes the audience on a
journey through space and the constellations.
Cubs who complete
all these activities will be awarded their Scientist Badge at the
end of the day.
At the end of the
day's activities, there will also be an option (at an additional
charge) to see a film in the IMAX® theatre. Please call the @Bristol bookings team on 0845 345
1235 for details of prices and films.
Cub Scout Packs are welcome to visit @Bristol at any time, but @Bristol are pleased to offer a special activity day at a reduced rate. The cost per Cub Scout will be £9.00 (this includes their Cub Scout Scientist Badge, workshop activities, entrance to Wildwalk, Explore and an Imaginarium show). This represents a significant discount (standard rates for the day would be £11.20 for children and £15.50 for adults). One free adult leader place will be available for every eight Cub Scouts. Extra adult leaders will be charged £9.00.
The day will start at 10:30 and organised activities will finish at 16:00. Packs who wish to stay longer are welcome to stay in the attractions until they close at 18:00. There are café facilities on site but space will be provided for eating packed lunches if requested at the time of booking. Home contact arrangements will be sent out with confirmation of bookings.
Numbers are strictly limited, and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Cub Scout Scientist Badges will only be ordered for Packs that book before the 1 July 2003. Please contact the @Bristol booking line on 0845 345 1235 or email groups@at-bristol.org.uk for more information. Payment can be made in advance or on the day. Group cheques will be accepted.
