Advice from The Scout Association PDF Print E-mail

Please heed the advice in the recent statement from the UK Chief Commissioner (Wayne Bulpitt) following disturbances in parts of the country.

In summary:

  • Continue to support and encourage our members to act responsibly in terms of their personal safety and wider actions.
  • If you plan activities in or near areas that may be targeted by similar disorder, please review these plans and risk assessments to ensure safety and wellbeing of everyone.
  • All Groups, specifically those close to, or in, city and town centres should think about the safety of buildings and property, and especially the security, location and insurance arrangements for any high-value goods.

I would add, keep a sensibly balanced and calm perspective, and if you need to discuss any queries or concerns, members of my team, including District Commissioners, and the Scout Information Centre, are here to help if necessary.

Where appropriate, continue to reassure, comfort and support our members, particularly where there are young people who may feel especially upset and distressed by the scenes they may have seen in the media or more closely.

At this time, my thoughts are with all those affected by the disturbances and my first concern is for ensuring everyone related to Scouting in our area stays safe.

Thank you taking note of the Association’s advice.
