What is the Scout ‘Buddy’ badge?
The Scout Buddy Badge has been specifically designed to encourage members in all Sections to recruit a friend to join Scouting and increase the number of people involved in Scouting across the Avon County.
This has been successfully used by Kent and other Counties across the country.
The badge is open to both adults and young people.
What are the requirements to gain the badge?
• Bring a new friend to your Group
• Together, chat to the Leaders and meet the other Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers or other adults.
• Show them around the place you meet.
• Help them learn about the Scouting family and the Promise they will make.
• Take part in an activity with your Scout buddy.
• Be apart of their investiture and receive your "Scout Buddy" badge.
Can the badge be awarded if a young person supports a young person moving up from another Section?
No - The badge can only be awarded for the introduction of totally new members, not as a reward for acting as a 'friend' to a young person moving from the Section below.
If a young person/adult brings more than one friend on separate occasions or at the same time do they get more than one Scout ‘Buddy’ badge.
No - Young people and adults can only earn 1 badge for introducing new members to a Group.
Can the badge be moved on to the new uniform when going up to the next Section?
No - young people can earn more badges by bringing along more friends to join Scouting.
Can a young person get a Scout ‘Buddy’ badge for reintroducing a friend to Scouting?
If a young person has reintroduced a mate (who has previously been a member) to Scouting after an absence of three or more months a Scout friend badge may be awarded.
Where is the Scout ‘Buddy’ badge worn?
On the lower right forearm, below the Leadership Stripe if a young person or below the District and County badges. The badge can not be transferred between Sections when moving up.
Is the badge the same for all Sections?
Yes - All Sections Beavers, Cubs Scouts, Explorers and Network can earn the badge for introducing a friend to Scouting.
The same badge is also used by adults who recruit a friend into Scouting!
Where do we get the badges?
Please use the attached order form to request stocks of the badge from County Office.
Badges cost 50p each.
