Benjamin Perry Activities Centre
"BP Boathouse"

Photo: BP Boathouse

The Centre is ideally situated on Phoenix Wharf, below Redcliffe Parade, Harbourside, Bristol.

The building is on two floors, with two external staircases. The lower floor is used for boat maintenance and storage, and the upper floor is used for an Activity and Training Facility. There is a large first floor room with superb views over the waterfront. There is a kitchen, small adjoining room, toilets and showers.

It is a suitable base for visits and expeditions to many places of interest in Bristol. By arrangement, it may be used for overnight accommodation.

There is limited parking on the Wharf, and plenty of suitable parking nearby.

The Centre can be booked throughout the year for meetings and social events by members of the Scout and Girlguiding Counties according to the terms of the lease.
History . . .
A reference made in 1868 refers to Benjamin Perry, Warehouse Keeper at 3 Temple Back, Bristol. The business developed into a large and prosperous organisation until 1895 when his warehouse was totally destroyed by fire. The business was restarted and then named Benjamin Perry and Son, and it was moved to its present address which is now called Phoenix Wharf.
Benjamin Perry died in 1902.
Until it was refurbished by Avon Scouts and Avon North Guides [now known as Girlguiding Bristol & South Gloucestershire] (replacing a Ranger Guides' HQ on Canons Marsh) it was used for the storage of road signs by Bristol City Council.
The founder of the firm was a member of Bristol City Council from 1897 to 1900 and a member of the Docks Committee.
An excellent amenity for all Girlguiding and Scouting and it is on lease from Bristol City Council for 60 years.
