Avon Scouts Adult Training

Appointment Process for Adult in Scouting

The scheme shown in the graphic below should be followed for the appointment of all adults involved in Scouting. Some notes are available below the graphic:

Appointment process

Job Description

Once an adult has been recruited, the first stage of the Appointment process is to agree a job description with their line manager i.e Group Scout Leader or Commissioner.

This should state:
 who they are working with
-   what they are required to do

-   how long for
-   what support is available to them.

The adult will then carry on through the Appointments process shown above, to induct them into their new role in Scouting.

Note:  Until the initial enquiry has been returned "clear" the adult must not have any unsupervised contact with young people.  When the Leaders Warrant is issued the adult may have unsupervised contact with young people.

Necessary forms completed

This includes the Appointment form (AA) and for individuals new to Scouting or returning after a break and a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) form which are both sent to Headquarters (Gilwell) by the District Secretary.

Provisional Appointment made

Once the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) form has been received by Headquarters (Gilwell), the Appointments sub-Committee Secretary informs the Local Training Manager that the new adult needs to start the Adult Training Scheme.  At this stage a Provisional Appointment is made. The adult is now ready to begin "Pre-Appointment Training" - called Getting Started

Getting Started

Following the issue of the Provisional Appointment, the getting start part of the training needs completing.  The getting started process is:
  -  the Appointment Process

  -  Module 1, Essential Information
  -  Module 2, Personal Learning Plan

  -  Module 3 or 4, Tools for the Job
