Avon Scouts Adult Training

Avon Scout County Training Team provides a flexible Modular Training Programme based on the current Adult Training Scheme.

The Modules are scheduled to run at the County Training Centre at Woodhouse Park.

They will be based as a weekend, day, morning, afternoon or evening learning experience.

The Programme, listed on this website, shows the core Modules organised by the County Training Team. In addition, individual Modules may be arranged through your Local Training Managers to be run by the Training Team locally within Districts – provided minimum numbers, equipment and suitable venues can be arranged.

The following Modules are provided by County under the direction of the County Training Manager and County Training Team and may apply to Section leaders, Section Supporters, other Supporters and Managers depending on your Training Plan agreed under Module 2.

Module 5 – Fundamental Values of Scouting

This Module explains the relationship between the values of Scouting, the balanced Programme, Badges and Awards.

Module 7 – Valuing Diversity

Ensuring that Scouting is available to all and that diversity is valued.

Module 8 – Skills of Leadership

This Module helps to provide the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to be an effective leader.

Module 9 – Working with Adults

Providing the means of working effectively as a member of an adult team.

Module 10 – First Aid

Providing the skills and knowledge necessary to enable adults to manage an incident and provide basic First Aid.

Module 11 – Administration (Section Leaders)

Explains the records and procedures necessary to effectively administer a Section.

Module 12 – Providing a Balanced Programme

This Module provides information for ways in which a successful and balanced programme is planned and run within the Section.

Module 13 – Growing the Movement (Section Leaders)

How to plan and achieve growth of Scouting within your Group and Section

Module 14 – Young People Today

Identifying and meeting the needs of young people in the Section

Module 15 – Challenging Behaviour

How to prevent and manage challenging behaviour within your Section.

Module 16 – Nights Away

This Module helps you with planning and running residential experiences for young people in your Section. (NB This is a weekend residential course.)

Module 17 – Activities Outdoors

This Module is designed to help you with the knowledge and understanding required to run a wide range of activities outdoors for young people.

Module 18 – Practical Skills

Gaining and developing practical skills to assist with the programme for young people in the Section

Module 19 – International

Demonstrating how the International Dimension to Scouting can be included in the balanced programme for all young people.

Module 20 – Administration (Managers)

The records and procedures necessary to effectively administer a Group, District or County.

Module 21 – Growing the Movement (Managers)

How to plan and achieve growth of Scouting in an area and facilitating and managing change.

Module 22 – Section Support

Supporting the adults that work with young people

Module 23 – Safety for Managers and Supporters

This Module guides you through the responsibilities and systems for ensuring that Scouting is safe.

Module 24 – Managing Adults Module 26 – Supporting Adults

These Modules are designed to help you provide effective management or support of adults in sections.

Module 25 – Assessing Learning

Providing the knowledge, skills and attitudes to effectively support adults through The Scout Association’s Wood Badge and other assessed schemes (different versions available depending on your role – e.g. GSL/DC/other manager or Training Adviser or Nights Away Adviser or Activity Assessor or Scout Show Assessor etc)
