| There are many national and
local events planned across the remainder of 2007 to help our Young People (and not so
young people) celebrate our Centenary year. Traditionally, when it is your birthday, you receive presents from other people. When we invest our Young People into Cub Scouts, they make their Promise to help other people and the Cub Scout Law think of others before themselves . What better way to demonstrate our Promise and Law during our Centenary year, than of collectively buying a present for someone else and that someone else will be Childrens Hospice South West. I am asking every Cub Scout, Leader and Helper in Avon County to give a present of £1.00 (1p for every year of Scouting) to the appeal. With the money raised, we shall be buying a piece of much needed equipment for the new Childrens Hospice in Wraxall. In giving their £1.00 present, everyone can be sure that the money raised will only go towards purchasing a specific piece of equipment and not in a general fundraising fund. It is important that everyone giving will be able to see where the money is spent. Your ADC has a DVD copy of a programme (narrated by Noel Edmunds) screened on TV earlier this year, outlining the work of CHSW. Please feel free use the DVD within your Pack to increase awareness of the CHSW. Please encourage all the Cubs within your Pack to support our appeal and as many adults as possible, whether directly involved in the Cub Scout section or not (other Section Leaders, Group Executives, Scout Fellowship, Parents). Please give out a copy of the letter provided to every Cub Scout in your Pack and use the Pack Register to record the Cubs name and donation given. The Adult Register is to be used to record all donations from Leaders, parents etc. There will be very limited opportunity for Cubs and Leaders to be present when we hand over whatever it is we are going to buy, as the Hospice is now operational. However, there will be a commemorative plaque on display, showing what we as a County did to think of others before ourselves in our Centenary year. Thank you for your support. GrahamGraham Meikle |
